Wandering around the house
Mon, 10-31-2005 - 11:10am

Well, now that our house is bigger, Nathan has taken to "wandering". He didn't do this much at our old house...not much room!! LOL Anyway, I walked by his bedroom the other day, and he was just walking around. I've been watching him (ok, I watch him ALL THE TIME), and he's been doing alot of "thinking". He's always done this though. I tried having a conversation with him about this. Apparently, he's thinking alot about school. Says he loves school. I asked him what exactly he loved about it...and of course, gave him multiple choice answers because he has difficulty just giving me his answer. He told me that he loves the writing (HUH??? HE HATES TO WRITE!!) And then a little later he told me that he loves the "cutting" (using scissors).

So, I tried this weekend to have him do some of the things he likes doing at school. I told him that he can use his scissors, paint, draw, color, write....whatever he wants. The funny thing, is that he ALREADY should know this. I don't keep their things locked up or anything. But I think that maybe he has forgotten (I don't know..new house, new rules??) Tyler loves arts and crafts, and is always doing something creative. But Nathan never seems to join in, AND he doesn't usually take to ANY suggestions I have. Trying to get him to do things is tough. He PREFERS to wander around thinking. He actually told me too....that he loves "thinking". I'd really wish that he would take all of his thinking and turn it into "action". He did eventually paint a little and also did some drawing and some cutting, but not much.

Do you think that this takes time, with maturity? Will he eventually start "doing" instead of "thinking" so much? Or should I just keep suggesting things throughout the day, and pull him away from his "thinking"? I know he loves to think, so I don't want to take that away. He doesn't really get "thinking" time at school, so I know that's why he does this at home. What do all of you think? Do any of you have "thinkers"?? Just wanting some insight on this topic.
