DH and I talked about it and we decided that we'll never know how it will go unless we try it, so we're trying it.

My son played local soccer, t-ball and little league since the age of 3 yrs. Some seasons were better than othes. But all of the coaches played all of the kids in all of the games. It gave each child an opportunity to try. The best part is son was exposed to other kids for an hour or so at a time.

Good luck. I think you're doing the right thing. We had my son signed up for soccer and my husband always arranged to coach. He's a very quiet and shy guy so this was a huge thing for him too. My 17 yo NT daughter was his assistant. It really helped because they could somewhat control the frustration level and quickly intervene when my son started to melt down. Now that he's in fourth grade, the local clubs have allowed Travel players to "double roster" and sign up for Recreational teams at the same time. Of course the parents want their little superstars to get as many games in as they possibly can. After all, you never know when the National team is going to call :D Unfortunately, the travel players raise the level of play so high for the rec league ( which is supposed to be for kids with lesser skills) that my son can no longer keep up with the other kids. So the kids who really need the exercise and socialization are left with no place to play.
