We are planning on definitely getting Liam a weighted blanket as he is just getting too big to be papoosed in his reg blanket anymore and wriggles out of it at night.

Most OT's recomend 10% of body weight for a blanket and then adjust from there as to what helps the child. Some are reluctant to use them for sleep with the little ones. You may want to check with his OT for specific recomendations.

I made Mike's and Dave's and it was a ROYAL P.I.T.A. and still cost me $50 in materials by the time I got everything. Dave's is awesome but I am not fond of how Mike's turned out. I tried to go cheap on fabric and bought this stuff on clearance that had a silky feel too it and space theme (thought it would be good sensory the smooth, and it is a bit stretchy so it is always out of shape and lumpy.

However the weight is great. My kids are heavier than 10% but they rarely use it for sleeping. Too hot. Dave does sometimes and always has his on his bed. Mike is more when watching TV or something. It was a god send in the hospital. I want to get or make him a new one but he won't separate from anything of his so even if I get him a new one, we are stuck with the old.

Dave's came out awesome. On one side it is a heavy fleece and the other is heavy duty poly cotton blend. So it is snuggle soft on one side and cooler and smoother on the other.

There is a lady not far from here that makes nice ones and sells them on the internet. I know her from the local autism community and hers are popular but I think they run about 200.

Either hers or someone else makes ones where you can add more weight or take away as you want. I think they are hers where she has velco pouches you put the weights in.
