I made Mike's and Dave's and it was a ROYAL P.I.T.A. and still cost me $50 in materials by the time I got everything. Dave's is awesome but I am not fond of how Mike's turned out. I tried to go cheap on fabric and bought this stuff on clearance that had a silky feel too it and space theme (thought it would be good sensory the smooth, and it is a bit stretchy so it is always out of shape and lumpy.
However the weight is great. My kids are heavier than 10% but they rarely use it for sleeping. Too hot. Dave does sometimes and always has his on his bed. Mike is more when watching TV or something. It was a god send in the hospital. I want to get or make him a new one but he won't separate from anything of his so even if I get him a new one, we are stuck with the old.
Dave's came out awesome. On one side it is a heavy fleece and the other is heavy duty poly cotton blend. So it is snuggle soft on one side and cooler and smoother on the other.
There is a lady not far from here that makes nice ones and sells them on the internet. I know her from the local autism community and hers are popular but I think they run about 200.
Either hers or someone else makes ones where you can add more weight or take away as you want. I think they are hers where she has velco pouches you put the weights in.
