I don't think I am quite ready to accept that DS is maybe something other than quirky. I am getting there. We go Thursday to the final neuropsych appoimtnet and get the assessment results. He was observed by the neuropsych for 1.5 hours and then over the course of 6 weeks (due to getting in whenever we could for a test)has had over 12 hours of observation and testing. Other than the speech lady he has had the same dr (not the neuorpsych but a helper dr) for the testing. I feel she has a good sense of my son and sees his wonderful points along with his 'issues'. They've seen him at varying times of the day and in difffent moods. I think they have been thorough.
The waiting has been hard but these last days are awful. Tomorrow DS and I go to the Nutcracker with homeschool group and then we will bake cookies and finish up decorating his ornaments for the grandmas. Thursday AM I plan to clean and try to stay calm.
We did decide to not tell the relatives anything until after the holidays. Some of them will be taken by shock and I want time to explain to DS and to process it all myself before I start answering questions. DS calls it his glitch and knows something is up and he is just as anxious as we are to get some answers.
I have checked a bit into the school district for services and found out that here in IL, unless he is enrolled fulltime we qualify for nothing. I can fight it, but am unsure if we want to go that route...We are not putting him in the public school sytem just for services. The drs have been incredibly supportive of our homeschooling and see that it is working for us and have agree that it would be hard to get him proper acadmeic material-behaviorally he is a young 5 (if not younger) and academically he is 1st-4th grade in varying subjects...
Once we officially belong here, I will post more about him and our family. Here's to a quick 2 days. Heather
