Joshua barely passed 1st quarter. And he is barely doing well in his 2nd.
His main issues seems to be organization...He just does not have the skils sometimes to just keepit together.
The constant need for reassuarnce and attention. Josh will constantly look tothe teachers(CiP and reg) for a good job deal before he can move on. He gets so fixated on that one moment he will not move past it before he goes to the next. Wether it is getting the right answer. Doing a couple of problems on the test, classwork etc It can be very distracting for the teachers involved.
He does the homework but , we sgn it off but somehow it doesn't make it to school, or gets lost. We make him put it in the proper spots but.. Most of the time he does okay.
English, well sucks. He can spit back the story and give you the facts. But in the lovely state of NY on their standardized tests they want to see the kids be able to analyze and interpurrt what is being read. Well for an aspie kid who can only see black and white so to speak this

I know it is hard to see what you are talking about your own kid, but I read a lot of positive things in your post.
It was uspeting only because I knew they were right. I don't want Josh in a lower class so to speak not yet. I want to try all and any avenues 1st before we go there.
I agree there are so many positives with Josh. That he is willing to do what he wants and only that. I mean when he decides he wants something he will go with it. If he doesn't like it or want it he could care less.
I do want the 1:1 for him I was even thinking to ask for it. SO for the teacher to say it 1st means I know I am on the right path. I agree I am not expecting Josh to be an A student. If he passes everything with C's I am happy. Heck at this point to barely pass English is fine. As long as all the homework is turned in and there is somesort of an effort put into it then i am happy. I only become unhappy when I don't at least see Josh trying,
It is almost as if he is afraid to do well, so he needs the reassurance that it is okay to do well.
Hopefully we are on the right track

Rina,
My son Chris is in 6th grade and I would LOVE for him to have an aide because of LD's and especially because of Organizational Skills.
Next yr he will go to 7th grade and I see this as a disaster.
I have learned that the best aides will not make it noticeble to the other students that they have an aide.
Rina,
I'm glad the teacher will be pushing for the aide. I know we have discussed this, and I really feel than an aide will help Josh with his organizational skills. Hopefully if that piece is fitted into place, his mind will be a little clearer to learn, KWIM?
I don't know how to advise you on the meds, except for my usual canned advice: Do your research and follow your gut. Anyhoo, I know you are an RN, so you know waaay more on the subject than I do.

Thanks guys. Yes it helps that the teacher is willing to be the one to push for the aide. I definitely agree. And if it helps take the anxiety away from Josh with out the use of medications it will be even better.
And I keep feeling we are taking one step at a time. But it has always felt like
