Got a phone call from the school today. Apparently Dakota had hit two separate kids in the nose today & wouldn't tell the principal why he did so. Dakota told me why though. The first because one kid has struck him first in the face with a ball and the other got in his place in line or something. Of course, not justified from striking the kids however. So as a result he has lost all privileges at school tomorrow and has lost the playstation at home for awhile. Dakota thought I was too cruel when I put that up. Also, we had to go pick him up at school early nor could he ride the bus because the principal didn't feel comfortable. He had better have better behavior tomorrow since tomorrow night is the school's carnival & we plan on going mainly due to Sierra's 5th birthday being on that day. However if his behavior is awful then may not be able to go.

Hi Shell,
Sounds like a rough day.
Shell,
SO sorry! That is so tough. Does he have sufficient supports at school?

I think he has some pretty good supports at the school. I think the main reason the principal was uncomfortable was all he could get out of Dakota was "I felt like doing it." Dakota wouldn't explain in detail what had happened. Today was a little better. Still some hitting incidents but he responded well to the consequences w/o throwing a fit. Very good. One was that he had to eat in the cafeteria while the rest of the class got to eat in the classroom and watch a video (this is a common activity on Fridays). He later got to finish watching the video once he returned to the room. The school is doing the best they can do. They don't have alot or if any kids with autism spectrum disorders other than Dakota. Not that they hadn't had any in the past. I do believe they have adequate services in place for Dakota so that is good. I am quite limited on what I can do here since it is a fairly small town I live in. Since Dakota's been 3, I felt the school has been bending over backwards for him so I think its great.
As for the carnival he did fairly well. Of course even Mom was overwhelmed with all those people. He had some outbreaks but handled himself very well. I think waiting in line was the hardest for him. Though he threw a tantrum after not winning a cake in the cake walk. I just ignored the behavior & walked out the door. I knew he'd quickly stop if he thought I'd just leave him, which he did. I believe both kids enjoyed themselves. We ended the day eating ice cream at Dairy Queen. Dakota insisted though I told him he was completely nuts when he also insisted sitting in the cold at a picnic table to eat the also cold ice cream.
Have a great weekend. I'm hosting a huge birthday party tomorrow for my daughter, who's birthday is today. Hopefully no outbreaks. Crossing my fingers.
