What are your child's obsessions?

Maybe you've done this before but I thought it would be interesting to talk about our kids obsessions.
My son loves animals. He knows so much about animals and dinosaurs, it's amazing. He loves Animal Planet and animal shows. Also, he loves his stuffed animals. He has quite a collection and always wants more. I buy cheap little stuffed animals and use them as rewards for him completing a workbook. It's about the only way I can get him to do one. He does have other interests as well, but animals take up most of his thinking. He even pretends to be an animal quite often. He will tell me, "Mom, I am a house cat named Snoopy who is black and white and he's yours."

I love this thread!
This is SO my daughter Noelle!!
Thanks Renee. I've heard of it when I saw a show on a man with high IQ who saw things in his mind like that. I wouldn't know how to know except that she seems to have colors and numbers separate, she just seems to talk about colors all the time and picks things based on color (like books, video tapes with colors on them - she doesn't care what the story is about, she just likes the color of the outside jacket) and puts things together by color (like crayons etc). It is interesting to see how different they are and what their minds are like. It is all very interesting.

Stephanie has a similiar thing with the CD Player. She starts to play one song, maybe takes it out and puts in another. Or starts a song, stops it, starts it over, stops it, starts it over and rarely finishes a song. It drives me nuts hearing it. She puts a DVD in or video she likes and replays the same thing 20 times over if we let her.

No Shelly, I haven't heard of it or read it. But it sounds interesting. I am going to try to find it at the local libraries. Thanks. I can't wait to see it.

Hi Chelsea:
Your daughter does that too? Stephanie always has done that, even at Noelle's age. She always had to be surrounded with over 20 stuffed animals. She is almost 8 (in May).
We tell her to put two of her toys down and she looks at us sheepishly and tries to sneak them back in her pockets. You never know what she has on her. Stephanie loves younger kids.
What is a stimmer? That is cute about the names. Stephanie only picks out names she knows or heard of; like her favorite characters on TV. Once inawhile she pick something she made up. Most of her dolls' names are Stephanie LOL. She does have one or two strange names like "Koula". She and her Aunt used to sit outside and whatever they sat on, Stephanie would call it the "Kanky." So once inawhile she'll use her imagination to name things.
Your kids sound so cute!

Vaughn's obsession has been trains for as long as I can recall. He did the whole Thomas thing......still will play with his train table but prefers real-looking steam engines (diesel are okay but prefers steam). He is also starting to love animals.....collecting toys, watching animal planet and the like, reading about them.....

I thought maybe here would be a good place to sneak in.
Welcome Debbie,
What a cutie your little guy is.
Yes, we are a great group of gals but no one REALLY wants to join our little club. But since you have, welcome aboard.
And boy do I know about obsessions about routines!
Renee
Thanks Renee.
