You can always start with your kid's own doctor.

Hello!
Our ped referred us to a developmental pediatrician at our local Children's Hospital. Our copay was paid at a specialist level which was a bit higher than our normal office visit and it required a referral from our ped. However, all of our visits after the copay are covered at 100% as well as our speech/OT/PT evals so long as they have the proper referrals from Nick's ped. We "probably" could have had a med diagnosis done through his ped, but we felt better having it come from a specialist since Nick is also ADHD and social anxiety as well. Hope that helps!

Does it have to be a diagnosis from a MD or will a PhD do? If a Phd is OK, you can check out psychologists and neuropsychologists. Also some universities have a service where you can have your kid evaluated by a postgrad doctoral student, under supervision of a professor for a lot lsee $ than a fully qualified Dr. But I don't know if your school will accept that. They seem to have some interesting rules.

I don't know, I was hoping someone here would be able to answer that question.

I have no experience with 504 plans only IEPs but Isn't the school supposed to evaluate him? Why do they need a medical diagnosis? I had my son diagnosed by a neuro-psych but only because the school repeatedly refused to evaluate him themselves because his grades were so good. If the school agrees that an evaluation is in order shouldn't they provide it?
