Hi,
my son is 8 years old and at the moment and
he changes his mind alot about what he wants to be when he grows up.
can you get a job as a cake-baking pilot that rescues animals.
what do your kids want to be when they grow up,no limits.

It could be that he just doesn't understand what it means "when he grows up". I wouldn't worry, he is still young :). Give him time. When you are playing or out and about and he sees something cool, say a excavator (my example), say something like "when you grow up, you could do that too!!". Some kids just don't understand the concept. Explain that someday he will grow big and strong like you and daddy, and that he could learn how to drive an excavator, or be whatever he is interested in. Best to take whatever he is interested in and go with that. That is how Nick started to decide what he was interested in, first he wanted to be a freight train engineer as he was addicted to freight trains. Heck, there are 18 year olds that have no idea what they want to be!!

Well, I asked him one more time, and gave him some examples (a policeman like uncle josh or a teacher like Mrs. H) he said "no" so i said "what about a power ranger? you wanna be a power ranger?" (he is ADDICTED to power rangers right now) and he said "YEAH!!! What color should I be mommy???" I said "your favorite color of course!" so he said "yay! im gonna be a green power ranger when i get big mommy!!" I was so happy for him!!:)

Dear Yvonne and everyone who responded,

What a cute thread. I loved reading it.

My 5 year old is just finishing up kindergarten. He wants to be a mail carrier. He comments on every mail box or slot he sees, and fantasises about deliering mail to them. He also plans on marrying a woman who grows boy babies in her tummy, and he will take good care of his baby boy on Saturdays and Sundays at home, and on Mondays-to-Fridays by keeping him in a drawer in his mail truck!

When I ask my three year old, he says he's going to be "A Man!" and he bangs on his chest with his fists. Then does something manly like put on my shoes and walk around the house saying, "Now, I'm a man!" Or, "I'm going to work!"

My wise 5 year old tries to explain that the three year old has to pick some kind of work, and he makes suggestions for him. Last time this came up, he tried to convince his brother that he should be a little-bus driver since he rides a little bus to his Early Intervention school. The three year old thinks his brother is trying to take away the grown-up privlidge of going to work, and... It becomes time to change the subject.

Late as usual.

Stephanie is kind of in her own world and doesn't pay attention to jobs, but is curious what DH does. In one of her classes at church, awhile back, the teacher asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grew up and almost everyone knew but Steph. I threw some professions out at her and she said she wanted to be a doctor :) A few years later, that is still her answer. Although, today she told me she might want to be a nurse. She likes helping people, but I am not sure of her intelligence level or her quickness to respond to emergencies, but who knows. She also likes helping gather baskets at the grocery store and says she wants to work there someday :) We'll see.

This was an interesting thread; I loved reading all your responses.
