Sorry I've been MIA for a week or so...we were on mini-vacation at my parent's (they have dial up so I never even attempted to get online...LOL) and then I got a stomach flu like thing...uggh!

I'm trying to decide if the lastest behavior is ASD or 2/3 yr old or both.

I do think it's part of the Autism.

hey Ginny,

I hope you are feeling better. It sounds sensory to me. I remember at that age, Peter had a head like a cannonball and seemed to have no pain threshold in his head at all. If he collided heads with me, I would be practically in tears and he would laugh (and try to do it again, the little booger!).

My good friend had a head-banger son. He could only sleep if he sat in a particular place, curled around his sofa cushion, with his blankie and bang his head against the wall. It was a comforting thing to him.

My guess is that Tony is kind of like a "head sensory seeker" and so he is exploring the use of his head in new and interesting ways. He probably does not realize that his head-butting hurts you, because it probably doesn't hurt him at all! A previous poster had some good suggestions there and also some good suggestions for trying to change or substitute the behavior.

It may take awhile to get over it but one day you will look back at this and laugh. Petyer was a biter (of himself and others) and I thought that phase would never end, but it did.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
