My 9 year old son got his progress report today.I was expecting a good report because I ask his teachers every day how he is doing,I always get the same answer.JUST FINE.His progress report is awful. The teachers wrote that he is not turning in his daily work,Why dont they say something when I ask?Is any one else having problems with teachers?

Yup last year. Josh was supposed to be bringing home tests for us to sign wether they were a pas or fail.
The routine was bring the test home Mom signs it. If I saw a failing grade due to him well rushing or not paying attention etc. he had to well re-write the test and figure out the right answers. I know i am a mean mother. No he did not get credit for this but it was for me to just know that he actually knew the work, which most of the time he did, or to figure out where the problem was. And then he would have to show his teacher that problem was addressed.
I woyld say 80% of the tests would not make it home, usually the failures. When asked Josh would lie up and down that no tests were due home. Of course until progress reports or 2 months later an dthe teacher would well mention that 5 tests were missing.

My questions were: Why not tell me when test number one didn't make it back. 2)aren't you watching him periodically clean out his locker to see if missing tets ended up in there. Esp once you knew this was an issue.

We had told her Josh was at the time ADHD and had issues (before AS dx) but I guess once you think 5th grade more responsiblity vs well Josh and his well being Joshua then maybe a little extra help may be a good idea.

Also we have open classrooms (no real walls just partitions and if someone farts in the next classroom you will hear it)in our middle school. Not good for Joshua who well hears everything and does not do well blocking out extra dtuff. But he did improve as year went on. We will see this year.
But anyway. IEP says extra time on tests, seperate room etc. The usual stuff. Well only during the critical state testing did they manage to take Josh and the rest of the IEPs out of their classes. Otherwise all tests, were taken in the regular classroom. Teacher said yes I gave extended time to Josh but she could not well force him to well slow down and actually reads the test since He was hellbent on being 1st one done. And her room was quiet for regular tests. Yeah right, in open classrooms where you can here the next clssroom over breath.

On pray the inclusion classroom works. Still open classrooms but at least there is another person in the room and hopefully she will keep Josh on track

does he have an IEP? If he does you can adress it through the IEP. If not call a meeting with the teacher and work out a plan with her. If that doesn't solve the problem get the principal involved.

Luckily foe us, I don't think we will have this problem. At the parents MS orientation the principal told us if this ever happens to call him because it absolutely should not happen.

He has an IEP but so far they arent doing anything they should be doing. We have a brand new Special Ed director .She started about 2 months before school was out last year and we are still trying to meet her .She didnt show up for his end of year ARD meeting and she never answers her phone. We already had to have a meeting at school because there is a new principal and a new counselor and they decided they would try things their way instead of the way the ARD said.I guess we will have to take a day off and go sit outside her office to get something done.
