As you know, having a child on the spectrum seems to make you an automatic expert in all things autism, LOL.

I got a request from a friend, asking which of all the various autism organizations is the best to donate money to.

I'm not a big fan of Autism Speaks, because they present autism as a this tragic thing that ruins lives and needs to be stamped out.

I agree with Evelyn. I would advocate donating money to an organisation that aims to support autistic people, or works for better awareness, services, advocacy, training, supported employment projects, etc. In fact, I'd suggest a local, hands-on, direct services agency over any large national body, because that way the money will make an actual difference to real people. For example, we have several local peer-suppport groups for Aspergers kids (including a film making group), and a support group for parents, and I do some fundraising for them, rather than supporting a big charity that claims to speak 'for' people with autism. I'd rather see money going to organisations 'of' people with autism.
