Why is this under "child health?"

I really do think it is unfortunate that this category is under child health, because people with autism do grow up. I personally am dxed with Asperger's, and was not dxed until I was 26. There are more people struggling with autism out there other than mothers, too. As hard as it is to parent a child with autism, it is no fun being that child (or adult) either!

All that said, I hope you all do not consider me a troublemaker...

Hi Beth! I think you brought up a valid point. I guess I never really checked to see if there was a group for adults with autism spectrum disorders. I know that I should take the time to think about how my daughter feels more often. I do think about it, but maybe not as much as I should. It's true that someday she will be an adult with an ASD and I need to think about how that will feel for her. Still, groups like this are important too because ASD affects the entire family, not just the person who has the disorder. I don't think you're being a trouble maker at all. In fact, I think I speak for everyone else here when I say that we appreciate the insight of an adult who has autism just as much as we appreciate hearing from mothers/fathers of those with autism. I hope you stick around and can offer advice from your unique perspective.

I know there is a child board of seizure disorders and one for adults as well here at ivillage. It would make sense if they had an adult board as well. Perhaps you could contact the powers that be and see if they would add an adult board as well. That would be cool.

In the meantime there are alot of adults with ASD at aspergerinfo.com.
