on the concreate bathroom wall at school? Jake will be 14 in June and he keeps having meltdowns at school. For example-he was at "lunch bunch" (they do social skills at lunch time) with his friends and the ASD teacher told them it was time to go to class and the boys would not stop talking-they were late to class. Needless to say this has happened several times so they got a consequence of eating lunch with the "normals" in the lunch room. Well when he got this consequence on his way to his next class he decided to stop in the bathroom and beat his head on the cement wall so loud that his aide could hear it out in the hall. He got a big red bump and felt dizzy for several hours. He has done this twice-that I know of. He says he is punishing himself for not thinking aand using his brain. No I have seen some of this at home like hitting him self woth his hand or something like the back scratcher-but nothing to the extent of giving himself a headache-it is just so frustrating- I now he nows what he is doing because when it starts to hurt he stops. His ASD teacher will no longer let him go to the bathroom without an adult make teacher.
On a good note yesterday was the 8th grade field trip -they went to Savannah-about 3 hrs from here-he had a blast! I was scared and nervous all day-but he had a great time and I am glad I let him go.

Liza,
My son has self-injured since before he could talk, and I still don't understand the mechanism behind it. Sometimes he seems to be punishing himself.

(((HUGS))) I don't have any answers! I just know it's so hard and frustrating trying to understand.
