On Monday I go register Victor for Junior High. (Yikes, is he REALLY 11 in Aug?) I'm dreading it because they have made it difficult to register NT kids, I don't know what it's going to be like with him. I did find out a few good things though. If I get Vic registered early enough, we get to have a tour of the school two weeks before it starts and he gets a guide for the first few weeks of school. Also, he'd ride the Special Needs bus that would pick him up in front of the house. I'm not too sure on that one. We want him socializing and in Junior High, that's when a lot of the socializing is done, HOWEVER, having 40 kids on the bus might be too much stimulation for him. I'm sure once I sit down with the IEP team we'll straighten it out. Good news is, we were at this base before, altho with a different dx, and the school system was awesome at meeting Victor's needs.
I am also concerned with the amount of writing that 6th graders have to do. I know that they will allow him to use a computer because that's in his current IEP however, should I make it so he can do all assignments on computer or half and half or leave it to his discretion? We're already having massive meltdowns everytime we pass the Junior High school because there is no more playground. This causes hysterical crying and Victor begs for me to hold him back in 5th grade with his sister. Obviously I can't hold him back, he's too smart, and his sister is going into 5th grade so there will be problems there also. How cool junior high is going to be is just a topic we can't even approach yet. Funny thing is, Bryanna can't wait for 6th grade now LOL.
I'm sure once I get through the registration and IEP process (AGAIN) that all will be right with world. I just needed to vent for a little while. Thanks for listening.

I wish you the best with your transition to junior high and the IEP. Forty kids on a bus whoa! I hope the tour helps your ds feel better and gets him ready. Do they have a gym or outdoor sports or anything? I've forgotten what junior high is like (lol) but hopefully there is something physical there he can do. Right now I'm worried about my ds having to write in Kindegarten this fall! So I'm not much help with older kids. I know others here will be.
