I don't know if you guys remember me from over a month ago, but DS Liam has his evaluation today for sensory issues and possibly others as well.

Good luck! When we started the whole process of diagnosis, we told son that we were going to a doctor to help figure out why he gets so angry, upset, frustrated, etc. When we started his behavior therapy, we told him that Dee (is therapist) was going to help him with his behavior so he could enjoy school better. We tried to be as honest as we could without overloading him with info.
Again, good luck!

Hi and good for you that you are getting the eval.
It's really not too late to impose structure on the summer, as your son might like things like swimming - THE BEST THING - can you get him private lessons? Find a friend with a backyard pool, buy a cheapie above-ground pool for your backyard? Any other cheap summer classes he could be involved with, like art classes, gymnastics classes, etc.? I cannot emphasize enough the benefit of deep muscle pressure with sensory issues, read: EXERCISE like trampolines, swimming, pushing heavy wheelbarrows full of dirt, riding bikes and trikes and scooters, monkeybars, swings, running around in circles. When we have days of freetime, the more of this, the happier the child and home.
You can set up a daily and weekly schedule. Include playdates, playground time, swim time, music hour (get instruments, listen to music, etc.), story-reading hours (at home or also at libraries), visits to family members, pretend camping in the backyard, etc. Make up schedules you can post with pictures for the activities, put stars up to mark off the activities as you go.
You can change the schedule from day to day, week to week, involve him with making up the schedules. Helping him focus will lower that anxiety and thus the behaviors!
Good luck with everything!!!

Hey Alissa! I've been meaning to e-mail you to find how how things were going. GOOD LUCK to both you and Liam! And just remember that the goal of this whole process is to get the information you need in order to best help Liam.
I'll be thinking about you and waiting to hear how everything went!
Jennifer :)
Thanks, Jen!
