Holy freakin' Gawd!!!!
So I knew this program was out there, but I had no idea how good it was. In GA if your kid has a disability and an IEP and was in public school last year they are entitled to apply for the special needs scholarship, which can provide funds for movement to another school in the district or even another district altogether (depending on availability of a place in a program). But more importantly it allows for a private school! I am not kidding here. They provide either what the state paid for the spec ed student the previous year or the private school's tuition, whichever is less.
So you can imagine I am tearing all over the internet looking for schools. I think we will try the new placement of the current class with the new teacher, but I am giving them 6 weeks to prove they are committed to Liam getting more inclusion, and to see if the new teacher is halfway decent. Ihave an eye on at least two schools, and if Cian's kindy year goes as badly as Liam's did, then they'll both get yanked.
I know this is the govt's way of offloading spec ed students from their responsibility, but if it encourages more private schools to open who cater to our kids, it certainly is curious.

Dee, this from OASIS asperger board warning all Georgia parents:
Actually, legally all you need is to have had your child at a public school in the state of GA the previous year and for them to have had an IEP during that time. The State will give the cost of what it was to educate said child the previous year or the cost of private tuition, whichever is less. I'm not sure what voucher scams you speak of but there is a very clear process a parent needs to go through to get the scholarship for their child. And only certain schools are cleared to offer places.
