Yoga for kids?

Ok... Haley's school offers this little yoga class as part of a recreational activity during the day. I don't know a lot about it but Haley recently took an interest in it. At first she hated the idea because you are supposed to be quiet and she likes to talk. Throws a fit if she's told to be quiet. One of her little things. Anyway, the teacher mentioned that it was a great stress reliever. She had a very stressful day on Friday and remembered the yoga class and thought it might be good to try. I was so proud of her for coming to this choice on her own.
Unfortunately, the teacher "squashed" it. She wasn't allowed to do it on Friday because she refused to complete a test. I talked to the teacher and explained that while I understand the importance of them getting their work done and I understand not wanting to "reward" a child for not doing what they were supposed to... it might be beneficial for her to attend this little yoga class as often as she'd like to. She came to the conclusion all on her own that this might be something helpful to her. Not that it would be fun... but HELPFUL. But he squashed it by saying that if she doesn't do her work, then no. She can't go. Just made me angry that I was shot down like that. Again, I understand his position but if this would HELP her... wouldn't it make more sense to let her go?
I'm not sure if I should fight this or not though. We're moving in 3 weeks. Major, major life changing move. Is it worth going into battle under those circumstances?
I was going to see about getting a yoga dvd for her to try at home but I have no idea what to look for. She's 10 and complicated routines will not work for her. I don't suppose anyone might have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Yes, yoga was good for my son too. So I purchased gentle yoga that had meditation at the end. Look for one like that.
I know nothing about Yoga but it does seem like Haley might really benefit from it.
Jill,
Our school does a yoga for kids program and my kids both love it. I can see how it would help Haley.

I agree to push it, but I have to say I do see there side too.
Our ten year old aspie son just started doing yoga every morning before school and every afternoon after school, but before homework- it's about a ten minute program and it's been extremely beneficial.
Thank you all so much for the suggestions and advice. I haven't pushed the school yet but we have a CSE meeting on the 22nd and I'm going to bring it up then. I'm definitely going to look into the dvds and see what I can find for her to try. I'm going to take her out to the stores hopefully this weekend to see what they have.
She's still very interested in trying it so I'm hoping she will like it and want to continue with it. May actually do wonders for my own stresses. LOL
Amy, I see a similar problem with the lack of opportunity for physical activity. They have PE twice a week but little time for a daily recess. Haley needs more breaks during the day than what they allow for. Her mind just wants to explode she says.
I'm not going to battle the school over this but am going to try and see what I can do to help her get the time in Yoga that she needs/wants. I will be talking and working with Haley to help her understand that she has to get work done and I will be talking to the faculty at the CSE meeting and see what else can be done to help her in that department.
Thanks again!!
