I should had just bought the kid Legos for Christmas!! He got all this "stuff" and what does he play with first----A bag of Legos from the Goodwill!!!
He did play with his build-it light saber---but started hitting everyone within minutes and got it taken away. He also played with his Millinium Falcon with figures---for about 10 min. Thats old now. I should have got him nothing but Legos!!!
Now what should I get him for his birthday in 11 days??????

LOL! I think Legos would be a hit! just a stab in the dark tho ;-)
We got Weston the Mega Bloks Pyrates ships-- we were told this morning that he was "very disappointed that they weren't Legos", but his older brother took him up to their room and helped him put them together and now he's ok w/ them. But, oh well, sometimes he just has to be a little more flexible! Thank goodness for older brothers.

Lego's, K'nex, and video games are an HFA/Aspie boy dream come true.
Buiding toys are great. Mike is very set on legos (took him a bit to accept mega-blocks as well but now they are not lego's but thier own cool toy. Not as cool as lego though). Mike just discovered erector sets which he now loves too, but they are very hard and require alot of help.
Dave also likes K'nex, lincoln logs, and infact anything he can build with. He also like dress up stuff for his favorite characters. Particularly Star Wars.
Mike ended up getting nearly the entire line of dino attack lego's for christmas. One from me, one from my mom and one from an aunt. He also got a game from his grandparents, an amplifier he wanted, and a variety of stocking stuffers. The only thing he is interested (other than occasionally taking over Dave's Darth Vader Voice Changer) in is the Lego's and he tells me this is his best christmas ever.

Betsy,
We got Tyler the Pyrate ship and Nathan the Pyrate Island. They LOVE this stuff!!! The pyrate ship is really cool....I have to admit! LOL The boys also got Star War Legos from family ......and they LOVE those too!!! Had to put those together immediately!!!! Nathan got his light saber, and he's been playing with that constantly too!

Holly,
Well, now you can sit back and relax....you already know what to get him for his birthday!!! Nathan turns 7 next month, so now I have to keep an eye on him to see which toy he favors in the next few weeks. You never know.......

Jacob wanted those Pirate Legos and I didn't do it!! I thought why on earth does that kid need more Legos. He really hasn't even been playing with them lately.
Actually---he is playing with only 1 of his toys---the Build-it Light Saber. But of course--he starts in hitting and it gets taken away.
So your kids play dress-up????
Jacob will put on his Star Wars-like outfit and thats it. No "playing" in it. It lasts about 5 min. Really--the kid doesn't play with anything!!
He tried playing with the girls' new wooden doll house and he just breaks the elevator.
When he says he wants to play with all these figures and stuff in the bathtub----he ends up bringing them in, lining them up on the window shelf and thats it. Or he will just play with the Army helicoptor and tank----with fighting/shooting noises.
When will he play like a "normal" kid?

Holly,
Nathan's brother, Tyler, has the built it light saber (he had a birthday in Sept). But Tyler doesn't really "play" with it. It's cool, he had fun putting it together...but it just sits there. Nathan likes to pretend he's fighting. I always see him...he says he's practicing....it's soooo cute!! lol He went thru one battery change on HIS light saber that he got for xmas. I'm going to the store tomorrow to stock up on batteries!!! Nathan hits the air, not usually objects. He has hit the wall and knocked over a couple of things, but no damage has occurred yet!!! And he does do this on accident. Nathan is a rule follower, so he tends to follow the rules!!
Nathan does like to dress up with his black cape and vampire teeth. But it doesn't last very long. He switches what he plays with constantly.
When the boys got their Pyrate stuff put together, I asked Tyler if Nathan "played" with him. Tyler said that Nathan was busy organizing, lining the men up, and telling Tyler who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. LOL But that's Nathan!!! He really likes to set things up, sit back.....and look at it.
Nathan also likes to make noises when he plays. I don't mind it, because when he was younger, he didn't say much of anything. So this is nice for me!!! Lots of crashing type noises is what he likes to do. Shooting and things blowing up....that's the kind of stuff he likes!!!

Holly,
I forgot your last question...sorry!!!LOL
When will he play like a "normal" kid? Good question. Don't know. Nathan can, at times, play like a typical kid....at least with his brother. I do see that it's not occurring as much as it used to though. Right now, they both love Star Wars and the Pyrates. But their differences are starting to become more obvious, and more frustrating for Tyler. Tyler is 9 now. Nathan will be 7 in Jan....although he acts and speaks alot younger than that. I'm learning to accept that Nathan will play the way he wants to play. It's hard to do, I want him to enjoy being a kid and having friends. But I know that he needs to go at his own pace. I think NOT comparing him to his brother and to other kids his age, is really difficult...but very important NOT to do.

Mike does dress up but not in the "typical" kid way. Since he was a toddler he would find things around to copy what ever his obsession de jour was and use or wear those. But you couldn't guess what he was doing or he would get very upset. For instance at 2 he carried a plastic chicken leg and a burping diaper everywhere in a certain way because it looked like the microphone and tassles from his favorite video he watched over and over again. Now this only occurs at halloween mostly but his costumes are always some obscure character you cannot find a costume for and it has to have all the parts. Doesn't matter if they look right but if the character has black boots I need to find some way to replicate that even if it means taping black paper on top of his shoes.
Currently he will not cut his hair and this time I can tell it is not a sensory thing. There is some character somewhere he is copying and wants that hair and if I dare try to cut it or mention it he about loses control. I think it may be star wars because the Jedi grow thier hair long. When Episode 1 came out he made me create a braid like the Padawans had that he wore all the time.
Mike does the shooting noises with play. usually it is by himself. If it is with someone else he is directing it and they must do it his way that is exactly the replica of the show.I was just talking with my SIL how just recently Mike has begun to play with his legos after building them. But he still doesn't play "normally".
Cait never really played normally either. She did play pretend with her younger sister for a bit but the younger sister led things. In fact the SLP said Cait had great play skills for a child her younger sisters age. But that was short lived now she rather go to neopets online or read but I guess that is typical for a teen, lol.
