Thanks for sharing this. I had never seen this before. The dad is great, he should do a series on regular tv! I found his explanation of some RDI techniques very accessible, then seeing them to be interesting and most are so short. Plus, it was nice to see someone working with their child the way we all do.
The video of Christmas when Jake was 2 almost made me cry, the comparison of him to his sisters, the dad calling his name but he didn't respond. We've all been through that but it still hurts to see it somehow.
It is so gratifying to see how Jake has progressed, and to see all the things we all have to do for this to happen.
Thanks again.
Katherine
I just watched a few of them. It was glad that he acknowledged how hard it is to get kids to eat vegetables, and told us how he did it. My NT son has never even put a vegetable in his mouth, except corn on the cob. And he just turned 5. I've never been willing to physically force the food into his mouth (maybe I should, but mealtimes are stressful enough without a screaming wrestling match), but we've tried reward charts. For him, there is nothing at all that is worth having to put a pea on his tongue. Then he's in a horrible funk for the next couple of days because he missed out on the reward. And this is my "NT" child. (Actually, he does have a SID dx from the dev. ped., but the OT with the school district says that's baloney.)
While watching some of the videos with Jake, it was striking to me how incredibly different Jake is than David was at that age, and yet the both have ASD. The issues we've had to deal with are completely different.
