Appropriate School Discipline?

An 11 yo Oregon boy with ADHD, Aspergers and possible other medical conditions that make him fall asleep, was forced to mow the lawn at his school as punishment:

Part of the reason he may be so sleepy are his allergies!!!

The check mark system is good for some. :-) My son has a similar system. He's no longer choking anyone....I'm amazed I read that. I thought my son was the only one that did that. It was a horrible day when he did that and unstructured time is not a good thing for Ryan.

I was horrified when it happened and felt helpless. His behaviors are improving but that particular school was not the best placement. I expressed that they needed to be clear about expectations with him and not allow unstructured time. He didn't understand the other kid about losing something at school and thought he was being called a loser.
