Hi I'm Angela.
My 4 year old son was diagnosed on Friday as having PDD-NOS, after a 12 month period of test after test.

Welcome to the board. The ladies here are truly wonderful and very supportive. I joined about a month ago after my son's official diagnosis of PDD-NOS. He is 5. It also took us a year in evaluation, meetings with several psychologists in the process. I agree with what other ladies have already said: get your school district to evaluate him for additional services via an IEP, follow through on the recommendations that the doctors have given you when they diagnosed your child. For PDD-NOS, working on social skills, speech, occupational therapy is key, at least it is for my son. PDD-NOS is a "catch-all bucket" for kids who don't neatly fall into one of the other four disorders in the PDD umbrella: autism, asperger's, Rhett's, childhood disintegrative. So kids who have PDD-NOS don't necessarily have the same symptoms. I know it's very difficult to realize that your child is not neuro-typical. It takes time for that to sink in, but you must stay strong for your child's sake.

(((Angela))) Welcome aboard. It's so overwhelming at first, so take one step at a time for these first few months. While early intervention is definitely helpful, it sounds like your DS has a bit of that now.
I have two kiddos with autism spectrum diagnoses. My almost 9-y.o. DS was dx'ed in 2002 w/ PDD-NOS, and DD (now 6) was dx'ed in 2004 w/ AS. Of course, if you read anything by Tony Attwood, he'll say those dx'es, along with HFA, are all the same thing. ;o) Just semantics, I guess.
At any rate, speech therapy, behavior modification therapy (Appied Behavior Analysis), and social skills groups (supervised playdates, really) can all be really helpful. Social stories (Google Carol Gray) can be super helpful for that age, too.
Really, though ... baby steps. You might check with your county's Dept. of Health and Social Services or similar organization to see if any services are available through local government agencies via a Medicaid waiver.
