Going through Possible Diagnosis

Hi - I'm new to this group and am just kinda looking to see what you all have to say - but wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and say Hi and that I'm glad you're here and that I found you.
I'm a mom of a 5 year old boy (soon to be 6) who was diagnosed last year with ADHD/Impulsive.
I am going through the same thing in awaiting a diagnoses. I have an appointment tomorrow to get the results of a long ongoing phyc assessment. My daughter is almost 13, and it's so hard. I have been struggling with alot of the same emotions. Why can't I have a "normal" child? For the past several years I had many issues with my son, so when my daughter's issues became worse and everyone suspected Asperger's it was very difficult. Like you said, knowing that having a name and proper diagnoses to go along with her struggles open's other doors to help and such helps a little, but just knowing that there is actually something that will make her life so much more difficult is very hard.
This board is great, and I have found much support and answers to my questions here, as I am sure you will with questions regarding your son.

Hello and welcome to the board,
This process of discovery is a difficult one. It was very difficult for me to get my hed around the thought that I had special needs chils 9and then two!). I sought counseling, and it was enormously helpful to me.
Also finding this board and a real-life support group made a real difference to me. I foudn thta I wasn't alone, an that other people like me wer dealing with this (and worse) and still looking towards a positive future.
Please feel free to stick around here and ask any questions you need as you go through this taxing time. we have BTDT and we understand.
-Paula
