Hi All...new to the group here

Hi All,

My name is Carol. I have a son, Matt who is 4.5 years old. He was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and PDD/NOS in July 2005. Matt has huge sensory issues but has not been formally tested for them. They tell me that they won't test him until he is at least 6. Matt started preschool last April. I am so pleased with the progress he has made. However, this school year he is having difficulties in the classroom. I was working full-time at nights and recently just went back to part time work so that I could spend more time with Matt. He's so bright and happy but a little imp..getting into things he shouldn't be..a daredevil..to say the least. He is so quick and quiet that I can turn my back for literally 15 seconds and he has hurt himself, falling, bumping into something...everyday is an adventure. He has meltdowns at school, getting off the bus, if the weather is not right. Somedays I feel like pulling my hair out. He is a sweet little boy, who is very loving and caring, and so sensitive. Everyday he does/says something else that amazes me. Recently, he started telling military time..where he picked that up is beyond me. My husband said he never taught him. He reads on a 5th grade level if not higher and comprehends about 60% of what he reads...provided the questions about the material is in written form. Verbally he is above average, however he does not participate in reciprocal speech..very normal with AS kids, or so I'm told. He has a photographic memory, which is so amazing to me. I do have to say it saved my butt at Thanksgiving time as I had lost a recipe for a traditional family stuffing. I thank God everyday for bringing Matthew into my life. Although he has issues, he is an otherwise healthy happy boy. I'm very happy to have found others who share what I'm going thru...Thanks to all of you for letting me ramble..
