Hi everyone!

My name is Shannon and I am 30 years old. I have 3 sons: Casshan almost 12, Justin 8 and Micah 2. Ijust foundyour board and thought I would join in. First let me say the reason I am here is because of my 2yo son. He has not been diagnosed yet, and will not be until we have his evaluation at a great hospital on January 3rd. Unfortuneatly thats a ways away, because they are very booked. Right now Micah is starting Early Intervention classes so that is great to me until the evaluation. His Dr and I agree that he may fall on the Autism Spectrum. We do not believe he is severely Autistic. He does show many signs however, but also many signs he's not. Micah has just recently started saying a couple words, but even those words are usually used in a mimic way. I have yet for him to call me "mama". At 1 he began rocking, which is anon and off thing throughout the day, everyday. Micah does not play well with children, he likes to play alone. Micah loves cars and will play with them for hours. He likes to take a pen and make circles upon circles for a long time on paper. Since turning 2, even more has surfaced from him. I noticed he starting hitting himself in the head..and began throwing things or hitting his older brothers. He will also just be playing by himself, stop and throw himself down on the floor and start pounding on it, and growling. Then, he will get up and act as if nothing happened. I also notice now whenhe gets hurt, he starting to laugh while crying too. Micah is a wonderful baby..and was so sweet, calm and hardly ever cried as a baby. I can honestly say he was my calmest baby. When things started changing I looked past everything. It wasnt until his speech never grew that I got concerned. Things have gotten so hectic anymore. I just feel like I cant take him anywhere. He does not like change and will constantly be unhappy and throw fits when not at home. He does it at home too..but I can calm him better at home. Micah is affectionate though, but on his terms..lol Changing Micah's diaper and/ or clothes is always an issue with him. Washing or wiping his face, another huge issue. Some days he has good days, and the next day can be totally opposite. Through out the day I never know what to expect from him. I love him so much, and just want to do everything I can to help him. Whether he gets diagnosed with anything or not. There is so much more about Micah to tell, but I could go on for days! lol

My son Justin, who is 8, is ADHD. He recently started a new school which is for kids with ADHD and/or Asbergers. SO far the school seems great and Im very happy to make the choice to send him there. So whether or not Micah gets disgnosed with anything, Im sure I can find support and great information from everyone here. Thank you for reading!!

Hi, Shannon,

Welcome! This is a great supportive board, lots of caring women who have great advice and experience. Pull up a chair and your favorite cyber beverage and share some chocolate or fresh from the oven treats.

I have 5 children, my middle son brings me here. He was originally given a provisional asperger's Dx but when we went through a more thorough Dx they said autism spectrum. He's still Weston to me. He'll be 11 on Wednesday and is fully mainstreamed for academic classes in a gifted program. With lots of therapy he gets along ok, he's still autistic, thinks autisticly and is delayed socially and emotionally, but we're so thrilled w/ the progress he's made!

Hi Betsy and thank you for the welcome :-)

That is great that your son is doing so well. Isnt that what we want from our children regardless of what problems they may have? Im glad to have found this board and hope to get to know everyone while Im going through this. Although Micah hasnt been diagnosed..I still want to learn as much as I can in case he is diagnosed with ASD or anything else. Thanks again!!

Shannon,

Welcome to the board!

I think you are right to explore options now while Micah is young.
