Need BTDT school issues Asperger's

Hi,
If your SIL thinks that the current placement is not meeting his needs, then she has to call for an IEP in his old school and put a request for she would like as a support for him. My son is similar to what you have described. With lots of struggle, and no diagnosis, he was always main-streamed. We got diagnosis in 3rd grade. The didn't think he will fit in special Ed in our district, so they have put some supports in place. His current teacher is too good. Sravan gets SLT/ twice a week. He also get handwriting practice/ once a week. If he finds classroom overwhelming or he is taking time off teacher, she lets him take a break in the reading area or sends him to resource room with his work. He also eats in the office, so he doesn't get bothered by lunch noise (which was a MAJOR problem for him), this is also his downtime to recharge. He also does his writing assignment (including state testing) on his alphaSmart. He loves it and claims he is able to get 5+ due to this ( my figers are crossed here).

Now that your SIL's son is going to be in middle school, he might need lot more supports ( you can read some of the thread) like:
- Locker at the end
- Five minute early dismissal
- Go to a resource room to check with someone w.r.to his assignments
- Social training as one his/her elective
- Buddy who can help him out
- Preferential seating in class.
- Meet with all teachers ahead of time and discuss his issues and their expectations for homework
- Also get a map of school and have a dry run before the school starts.
