Hi all,

I've been on some boards before, but I'm new here. I have a 9 year old son with an Asperger's dx, a 6 year old son with speech delay, and a 3 year old son with speech delay. My life is run according to our therapy schedule, to say the least. I'm 45 and living in the Chicagoland area, which is great resource -wise. Except I can't find a good support group where I can air my angst, come with questions, and make connections with others in the same boat. My therapist has been hammering me to get some support because I'm constantly second guessing my parenting ability and feeling pretty alone. So here I am........

Hoping to get to know you and sharing some thoughts and feelings.

Hi Drea and welcome to the board.

It was great to see you briefly in chat last night, sorry you didn't stay long so we could get to know you better. Sometimes there is a lot happening in chat, last night was that way. Did you have any specific concerns or questions, anyways, do come back to chat whenever. Getting support can be so helpful, and esp. from other BTDT parents, 'cuz we understand best! I happen to be lucky in my IRL support, as I know lots of moms and dads of ASD kids here in NYC, in fact some of my ds' best pals are other super-duper ASD kids. And their parents are indeed the most understanding, fun, great people and supportive circle to belong to. But when I need to unload here at home, or just want to see how others across the country, and around the world, are doing here and offer my own support and advice ... well, I love this board. Do stick around.

My ds Malcolm is 10, just a little older than yours, and he is dx'ed PDD-NOS 'cuz his symptoms don't line up just so for another dx. He is very bright and funny, we are homeschooling due to amazing lack of programming in this Metropolis, and he is doing great.

Tell us more about you all. I lived in Chicago for over 6 years, 4 of which were in Evanston at University, and 2 were a block away from Wrigley Field! I will always have fond memories of that great town.

yours,

Sara

I've been in Evanston for 11 years now, NW corner near Skokie. Originally form Maine; Portland area. I was getting sleepy last night, so that's why I took off. I'm not used to chat yet, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. I didn't have any real questions last night, just wanted to try it out. Thanks for the welcome.
