Hi there,

I lurk here quite a bit but haven't posted. I have 3 kids - Derby is 6 and diagnosed with PDD-NOS, Molly is 4, and Hayden is 2. We live in Barrie, Ontario.

Derby (pronounced Darby) was diagnosed in June of this year. We have known for a while that he is not "typical" but put it down to other things - he started reading at the age of 2, by himself! But he didn't pick up the language like he should have. Time passed, the family doctor insisted "he's just being a boy, he'll catch up" and we left it at that. When he started J/K - big problems! He was labelled as defiant, and possibly autistic. A year and a half later, and we finally have a diagnosis.

Derby is a wonderful kid but also frustrating. When he gets fixated, you can't steer him away no matter what.

Anyway, that's us in a nutshell. I'd love to start posting here, and learn from you all!

Hi Amanda and welcome,

I'm glad you decided to de-lurk. We're not all that scary after all. ;)

Hi Amanda, weclome!

I have a freind who has a house near you. Not in Barrie, but somewhere close. She talks about going shopping in Barrie. **shrug** Can't remember the name of the town her 'cottage' is in though (she lives full time in Vancouver). But she has a 2yo DD with 'possible PDD-NOS' (too young to give a full DX I guess).

I actually love the name Derby! I'm a writer and recently named a character Derby. Not a main character, but a side kick of sorts to a scientist named Turen (for those of you following the story). Now I'll probably give him more lines! :D

I have 6 DDs, ages 20, 15, 14, 12, 6, and 3. The 12yo is HFA with mild MR, TS, and SI. The 6yo is AS with SI. The 6yo also taught herself to read early (thought not quite as early as Derby!) at 3 1/3. The 15yo and 20yo are Un-DX'd aspies. They're both 'different' but never really needed much help with anything. MY DH is also AS (dx'd). So, I've got tons of autism all over the place in my life, lol. It's the norm for me.

Looking forward to getting to know you and your kids better.

Greetings, Amanda~

A thousand welcomes to our little safe haven in cyberspace. Although I must tell you, Paula IS very scary! Just wait until she tells you about the great and terrible Ong!

Anyway...I'm Amy and I live in Illinois. I have three kids, two of which are on the spectrum. My 9 y/o DS has been dx'd with Asperger's Syndrome. My 6 y/o DD has been dx'd as "traditionally autistic" - whatever THAT means. (She's lower functioning than an Aspie and higher functioning than someone with a Kanner's Dx.) In the middle is my 7 y/o DD who handles it all like an angel.

My hubby is an unofficial Aspie - and his mother is somewhere on the spectrum also.

Looking forward to getting to know you and your family.
