Hi Everyone

Just wanted to introduce myself - I am a mom of 2 - my boy is 9 and PDD-NOS. He actually got the diagnosis a few years ago, but I am only now seeking out support as I am just realizing that PDD-NOS IS something I am entitled to receiving support over. (when my son got diagnosed, the developmental psychologist pooh poohed my feelings that my son had Aspergers and essentially made PDD NOS sound like nothing). I can't tell you how good it is to read some of the posts, realize there are other moms out there who have gone what I've gone through with my precious boy (sensory integration issues, speech delay, socialization challenges up the wazoo!), and that I am not insane! We're an Arizona family, so if anyone has any good social skills resources in the Phoenix area, feel free to holler.

Candes -
Nice to hear from you! We're out in Avondale. As far as services, I'm most interested in social skills, playgroups, etc - my insurance won't cover anything, and supposedly what my son's school offers is pretty much pathetic - at least from what we've been told and offered. I will definitely check out PCH - but what is SIRRI? I don't know that acronym.
Thanks for writing back - are you involved in any other groups in the valley? I just joined the Asperger Parent network as well, and have already found a fellow Avondaler - so I'm pretty happy!
Hope you and yours are well

Hi Colleen,
Nice to have you here. My ds just turned 10 this last week, he is dx'd PDD NOS and anxiety disorder. We too have had a hard time getting services through school, but lucked out (if you want to call it that) and got the same services with the anxiety disorder dx. I have a bundle of boys and love to come here and read the posts. I don't post much, but someone always seems to ask the same questions I have, and someone always gives great advice! These ladies are a wonderful support, I get a lot of comfort just knowing I am not alone in this!
Hope to see more of you,
Carey

Welcome Colleen! You will love this group, as it's a wealth of info, alot of laughing and a great chat group :)

It doesn't matter where it is on the spectrum, Autism is Autism... thats just the way it is, and we can all help each other.

Colleen,

I am glad you and Candes found each other. I just wanted to take this opportunity to "officially" welcome you to the board. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need, or to vent and cry if you need to.

Wow, you about made me cry with what you said about autism - thank you for the support! It's something I haven't exactly had much of in terms of my son's diagnosis, so I'm so happy to have found this board! I hope your day is wonderful!

Hi Colleen, Isn't it funny how one dev ped suggests one thing and another a totally different interpretation. Welcome to the boards,

Hi Colleen

I'm nora, mom to Adam who also has PDD and was dx'ed at 2yr 9month. Adam was speech delayed and I never realized how socially behind he was. MOST doctors are NOT informed on the whole autims kinda thing--sadly it's not taught in med school--go figure.

It's autism---no matter how ya dice it--kwim? I could have written your post with speech issues, sensory issues, lack of social skills etc........

Glad to meet you! Hope you sit a spell and hang with us gals. We are a fun loving bunch who understand.
