HI everyone, I'm so happy to have found this board. So here goes: I have an 8 yr old DD who was diagnosed with ADHD at an earlier age and we suspect she also fits the bill of AS. I've been reading a few posts and can really relate to most of you. DD takes meds ( Concerta) for the ADHD, for the past few years teachers at her school have been making observations on her behaviors and interactions, now we are in the process of having her diagnosed for AS. Some of her teachers suspect this as we do. She is very routine oriented, and dislikes changes. She becomes very anxious when things aren't the way she needs them to be, socially she seems to be in her own little world according to her teachers, and will only initiate play with her peers geared to what is of interest to her. She also doesn't appear to know what the consequences of her actions are, for example; she asked her teacher what would happen if she put her fingers in the pencil sharpener, she has also asked why she was cold while outside with her coat unzipped. I know the kids make fun of her and it breaks my heart. As far as her learning goes she is not at the level the rest of the kids in her class are at, but is still doing well. She also obsesses a lot about things and will ask you the same question over and over even though you have answered her about a dozen times. She needs to be prompted to go to the bathroom and to eat otherwise she will go on all day without doing so.I love my DD very much and look forward to sharing tips and support with everyone here. =)
