Hello everyone! New to this board. I'm going to make this quick! :-)
My 8 year old was just dx'd by a psychiatrist as follows:
AXIS I: ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, possible Aspergers dx
AXIS II: nonverbal learning disability
AXIS III: no dx
AXIS IV: school, peers
AXIS V: 50
Then it goes on to say under "Plan/recommendations"
He has aspects of PDD with may meet criteria for Aspergers disorder.
There's more, but probably not too interesting.
So we are seeing a counselor, he will be joining a social group, and his school is doing an eval to determine the need for an IEP or 504, and therapy for fine motor skills.
The counselor suggested trying L-Tryptophan to help him go to sleep and anxiety (his anxiety is especially severe at night), L-Tyrosine for attention problems, and fish oil.
I've tried the L-tryptophan a few times and do think it helped him go to sleep and possibly helped ease his anxiety (not sure yet). BUT, he complained twice of having pain in his chest, not near his heart. Of course this concerned me. I searched and found a side effect can be heart burn.
Now my question, anyone have any experience with L-Tryptophan and L-Tyrosine? How about FocusFizz? Also, the psych. recommended Citalopram for anxiety . . anyone have experience with this with a child?
Thank you!! I attached a picture of my Benjamin, with his little brother. He's such a sweet boy! I need help!!!
