There's this lump... ultrasound question
| Tue, 06-22-2010 - 9:53pm |
So I went in to the dr today about a lump I found on my chest last week. He said he thought he knew what it was but once he examined it he realized he didn't and referred me for an ultrasound tomorrow. I'm confused. Aren't ultrasounds for showing that there's something there? Can they actually show what it's made of or if it's a cyst or tumor? I'm not a fan of being charged 100s of dollars for things I don't need.
Anyone know?
Thank you guys. Sorry it took so long to respond!
The craziest thing happened. They weren't going to do a biopsy. First surgery since it needed to be removed right away. Surgery was scheduled. Everything was so different so I went in the morning of the surgery for a last minute ultrasound at my request. They didn't believe me and told me to fast and be prepared to go straight to the OR. Long story short I have no idea what happened and neither do the doctors. I went home with a normal ultrasound. I said it must have been a cyst! They said no it definitely was NOT a cyst. Who knows but I love that it's all good now. :)
I was wondering what was going on with the lump Momma! I couldn't remember your id on ivilliage and wanted to email you.
Please let us know what happens! I would of responded sooner but like Paula says, we all forget to scroll down.
And I am also one who has (still) a lump on my thyroid. It was hard worrying about it but it turned out benign too. I do think I will have it taken out though because it is getting to be quite uncomfortable (it's kinda big lol)
Please give us an update when you can!

Good luck with the surgery. I had half my thyroid removed 10 years ago due to a benign goiter, though they didn't find that out until after the surgery. I really freaked myself out and it turn out to be a simple procedure with a quick recovery. Hope all is well!
Siggy, thanks to cl-joeymomof4!

It's not easy to face surgery, but your surgeon is probably right. Better to know what you're dealing with than to whistle in the dark. Let us know how it goes and what they find.
Best of luck to you.

I hope it turns out to be something benign and not a worry. US is a useful, not invasive tool, but it can only do so much. Good luck.

I had the u/s and it did show that this was NO cyst... so I guess they do work for that. :) Now for more testing to find out what it is...
My husband said something about hoping everything is fine, and my DS9 aspergers started talking about his interest. lol I guess sometimes it's a good thing they don't notice.
