Time for another lovefest!
| Wed, 12-10-2008 - 4:58pm |
I don't know who remembers the lovefest we had here a few years ago. Basically, it was a thread where we all poured out our appreciation for each other. It was very uplifting.
I wanted to do another one for the holidays, but we have a lot more members now and a lot of newer members, so it might be hard to do an individual lovefest like last time without newer people/infrequent posters feeling excluded.
So how's about a *board* lovefest? Not mentioning names, we can say how coming to this board has helped us, some things we have learned and some of the support received, include little stories or anything you like.
Does that sound like a good idea?

What a wonderful idea Paula!!!
the reasons I love this board are....
I am never judged.
LOL
I started this thread, was about to post the first response, then realized it was time to make dinner and promptly forgot all about it. (And Evelyn complains about *her* executive functioning!).
This board and the people on it have helped me in innumerate ways since I first came here about... 6? 7? years ago. I learned so much about what a high-functioning ASD was REALLY all about; the subtleties, the huge variances, the co-morbids, plusses and minuses. All stuff you won't get on an "About" page.
I also learned a lot of tips for dealing with things from meltdowns to not sleeping.
There has been a huge positive difference in my life and my kids' lives because I found this board, and I love everyone on it.

Reasons I love this board are:
No matter what time of day, someone is listening. Even if there is no response, you know it's merely because they are going thru the same ups and downs of the day you are.
I have found true friends here. Ones that do not judge that you didn't smack your ten year old across the mouth for saying "Shut up boogie head" to his little sister. Being a military wife, it's hard to find people who get that. Thank you all.
I have found friends for Little Vic here. (Sorry Renee and Lainie, I just read thru Vic's e-mails and know he's being a bit gooberish in them).
I have found that I need to know what's going on with everyone, how everyone is doing, if I need to fly anywhere and kick some butt?
Alexis
Alexis, I almost emailed you to tell you about Chris's latest emails to say no worry's at all.
Not to hijack the thread anymore ( sorry) but no worries. I told Vic that when he appears excited to some people that might come off a bit too strong. He's cool with it. That's why he apologized.
I love that I can get advice on situations from the smallest to the biggest, from toys to IEP's and everything in between.
Here are some of the things that I appreciate and find nourishing about the board.....
I get inspiration here. There are so many great people and they are doing great things. And some of you are doing so much with so little resources, it inspires me to keep going when the going get tough.
I get information here. Whether it's solving the latest behavior problem, an IEP question, learning about the nuances of ASDs, any just tips and tricks, I learn new things here all the time.
I get to break the isolation. I can always come here and find an understanding friend. I can spout off about whatever is on my mind, dump it here and someone else will provide a listening ear and a few choice comments.
I get to laugh. At myself and my family, at you and your family, we get to share in the humorous little details that make life a joy.
