Two Austitic Kids Awarded Millions

The federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program has awarded millions to two families of autistic children.  While they are not admitting that vaccines could caused their autism, it does open the door:

The government did not admit that vaccines caused autism, at least in one of the children. Both cases were "unpublished," meaning information is limited, and access to medical records and other exhibits is blocked. Much of the information presented here comes from documents found at the vaccine court website.

Some observers will say the vaccine-induced encephalopathy (brain disease) documented in both children is unrelated to their autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Others will say there is plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise.

You can read more at:

I think that these rulings open the door for more research between vaccinations and autism, it would be helpful if they would release all of the data that they used to make their decision.  Do you think that vaccinations played a role in your child's autism?

Hmmm... I had not seen this article.

The vaccine debate is really volitile between the believers and the non-believers.

I think there are diferent types of autism which is causing part of the spectrum effect.  From what I read, my impression is that the vaccine consideration is most prelevant in autism regression. Also interesting of note is that one of the "types" of autism they think is related to the immune system.

From my personal experience, the doctors were VERY irritated (ok - outright hostile) when we suggested an alternate schedule for vaccines.  But I am so glad we made the choice as it is clear to me OUR case is not related to the vaccines.  I would have always wondered.

I think vaccines sometimes get a bad rap.  Our first BIG red flags for autism started becoming apparent at the same time kids are normally scheduled for vaccinations.  Especially our sensory stuff which was developing at the same time.  That being said, my child is sensitive to everything - why wouldn't he be sensitive to a vaccine too?  Especially if he had an "immune system" type of autism?  Also, if you have all that development going on and a fever comes along (from vaccines, teething, or whatever), who is to say at this point some children don't get overloaded and screw up the wiring somehow?

Very interesting.
