Your only as old as you feel!

Ok, I was laughing about this all day yesterday. People would ask "how old are you?" I would answer, gee if you are only as old as you feel I am thinking about 107 today!

This year I started to have to cover my grays, I noticed wrinkles and a fair amount for the first time in my life. My daughter started middle school and her period. My baby started kindergarten. I can't loose the last 20 pounds to save my life. I found I have the beginnings of arthritis in my knee, so this year I am 107. And yet only 37.

So how old are you? How old do you feel? How often does it change?

Ok, maybe I stretched it a bit with 107, lol. I am like the rest of you. Older somedays, younger others. Mostly these days older though I exercise a decent amount.

Hopefully when I am in my 40's I will feel younger.

I'm 34, will be 35 in August. I guess that feels about right to me... Some days I think it's just absolutely crazy that I'm married with two kids -- how did that happen??? I'm way to funky and cool to be a "mom"... ;-) But really, I usually feel like I'm in my mid-30's. I look at people in their 20s and they just look so YOUNG to me! I've been plucking the gray hairs for a while, and just this year I've started to notice that my skin is aging. No wrinkles, but it just looks... dull. And, even though I exercise every single day and eat healthier than anyone I know, I can't lose that soft, stretch-marked, elephant's-knee-looking pooch of a stomach -- a souvenier of the baby weight I gained with Sebastian. However, since I'm fairly fit and only 4'9", most people think I'm younger than I am. And I do get carded, too -- it always makes me smile!

this does not have to do with how old I feel - but it made me smile...

I went to the grocery store to pick up some beer and nachos for the superbowl. The cashier carded me! I asked her what age she is carding me for - she said she has to card anyone she thinks is under 27!! I pulled out my cellphone and called my husband to tell him that the cashier thinks I'm under 27 - he couldn't stop laughing. The cashier thought I was nuts. I told her she made my week!

Well, I'm 38 and a half, and I've noticed lately that I've aged a lot. I think mostly it's because I don't get enough sleep or exercise. Mostly sleep. My face looks tired all the time. All the magazines and stuff say you have to "make the time" for exercise. A couple of years ago, I did just that. I got up at 6 o'clock five days a week and went to the gym. I lost ten pounds and felt great for a few months. But getting up that early began to take it's toll and I just couldn't keep it up. There's no way I can get to bed before 11, no matter how I structure my day. And that's WITH a husband to helps load the dishwasher.

I'm getting more greys, but I have no intention of coloring my hair. I don't mind that part of aging. What I do mind is the fat I've accumulated on my BELLY. That, combined with breasts that were saggy when I was 16, kind of gives me a post-menopausal look. My best friend is 45, with 2 quirky kids of her own, and she looks like a gymnast. I, on the other hand, can no longer wear my husband's jeans because my belly is too fat. Talk about gross! (But, I've stuck to my weightwatchers online plan for two days in a row!)

On a positive note, I still have perfect vision and no cavities!

Also, I feel...well...wiser than I was. Now that I am 38, I know what I believe in, and how to think critically in a way that I couldn't have even ten years ago. I'm less gullible, and more compassionate. I still often feel like I'm an imposter pretending to be a grown-up, especially when I have to deal with such horrible things as refinancing a house or navigating the world of school districts and IEPs.

If I could get Nathan to do yoga with me, or ride his trike alongside me while I go for an exercise walk, that would help a LOT. He refuses to, though.

OK, OK, I seriously beat you all. I will be 49 in April. But this is NOT well known, as I don't look it. I have great genetics, and the hairdresser keeps those greys FAR, FAR away!!! And this means, next year, 50 years old --- GASP!!! That's a bloomin' half a century. But DH is 8 years younger, so noone is really the wiser ... unless they start adding up how many lifetimes I have lived HA!!! Anyways, if I am asked, I usually say "ageless". And I live in sweat clothes, jeans, sneakers and T-shirts, actually, I very seldom resemble a grownup unless absolutely necessary.

How old do I feel? Well, at least my age many days. Sometimes I feel lots younger (how could I be this age, there's so many more things to do in my life), some days I feel older, today I feel younger but without any kind of interesting enough life!!! OK, I'm just a little blue and very tired today. I became a mom the same year I turned 40, so if you figure out how old Malcolm is and add 40 years, you will always know...

Hmmm.

I'm 38½. I am told I look younger. Probably because I dye my hair to hide the gray and wear it long. The wrinkles show when I smile, and I think I need braces for my teeth!

I have no idea how old I feel. Sometimes I feel very young and out of my depth. Like tomorrow, I have to lead a serious negotiation in work and I don't feel grown-up or senior enough to go through with it.

I am often made to feel like the 'mom' at work. Most of the people in our team are quite young, and I am older than many of my peers because I took some years out with the kids. Last month the Chairman jokingly asked me if he could be excused from a meeting because I was the "mom" of the meeting. I'm not sure how I felt about that...

Sometimes I feel about 6. There is a lightswitch by the back elevator at work. It has "LEAVE ON. DO NOT TURN OFF!!!" written all over it. Every morning, I have to supress the urge to flick it and run away! I also like to chase pigeons in NYC. Nevermind if I am wearing full business attire, high heels, hat, coat, briefcase. If I see a congregation of pigeons in the street, I run straight through them, and watch them fly!

At heart, I guess I never really grew up! I just manage to fool most of the people, most of the time.
