It's hard to tell from your description if there are many red flags - altho you mention that the teacher's report had more concerning things in it that made it sound more serious. Your description sounds just like a bright, quirky kid - which may or may not be an Aspergers kid. Lots of them fall under that description. What kinds of things were in the teachers list that made you think Aspergers?
The main reason to seek a dx is to obtain services and you don't say much about any deficits that he may have other than some hypotonia and hand writing problems. I'm curious, why did the teacher approach you with his/her concerns? Is he having any problems academically or socially at school? Social issues are a major issue with ASD kids and they can receive services to address them. Ultimately the decision to pursue a dx is your decision.
You can ask the school to evaluate him for problems areas, free of charge. They don't dx, just identify areas of need, like handwriting or social interaction or emotional control, and provide services to address the deficit. Or you can have a private evaluation done by a neuropsych, psychologist, or dev. ped. As I said, it's your choice what happens.
