Anxiety in Children: Anyone try Alpha-Stim?

Hi, I haven't posted on this board, but visit the ADHD and Asperger boards. My 9 yr old son has ADHD, Aspergers and anxiety. We've tried some meds, but he couldn't tolerate the side effects. Now I want him to go med free for awhile.

He sees a therapist once a week. This week she tried Alpha-Stim on him for 20 minutes. After 15 min, he said something like "this is the first time I've never been afraid". He is afraid of a lot of things and worries about everything! So I was completely floored by this. The next day we had an appt with his psychiatrist, who suggested we try it, as it certainly won't hurt. There are no huge side effects.

So, am wondering if anyone has tried this and what the outcome was. Supposedly insurance may cover part of it too.

Thanks in advance.

We did not, but that sounds wonderful! I am going to ask around about it.

Will you please keep us updated on how that progresses - how long the treatment effects last? Does he have to do it every other day like I found here: http://www.alpha-stim.com/SCS.html ??

The meds are so dangerous. I know we carefully weigh risks vs side-effects and when we do not know what else we can try, we choose the meds because the symptoms are worth the risk!

I just do not , DO not, do NOT, understand why our medical community does not try (or even tell us about) the multitude of benign treatments available before trying the meds that are medically so hard on their body and brain! Some people say "Well, the others have not been 'proven' to work" Well... neither have any of the meds we use for our children. My kids went through over a decade of trying med after med after med before we found what worked for them, and it was not any of the psychiatric meds that had been tried (except I will say, Wellbutrin did help for the younger one, but even that was replaced by something which would be safe for her and a baby should she choose to have a baby in the future (as she is now a young adult).)

Thank you for sharing!

Hi! Thanks for your reply. I totally agree with everything you said. It seems like it's so easy to just say "try a med" . . .
