Has your child ever had anxiety about the approaching new school year?  Two of my boys are feeling a bit nervous and anxious, one is starting high school and the other middle school.  Both of them struggle with adapting to new situations, but I hope that after a couple of weeks they'll setlle in and get comfortable with the new routine.  I'm a bit more worried about the middle schooler, that's a big adjustment from elementary school!

I found an article that had some good tips on easing into the transition: http://www.ivillage.com/back-school-anxiety-how-cope/6-a-128828

Do you have any tips for dealing with the anxiety?

We attended all the orientations, met all the teachers, got together with other kids going to the same school, played in the school playgrounds--generally getting a feeling like the place is already a part of our lives.

In this article, I loved what it said about being organized. My younger daughter struggled with getting homework assignments to home and back to school until she was taught to religfiously use an accordian folder. Wow! It worked! With my older daughter, what she needed most in middle school was a planner and lists had to become her friends. She didn't really get that a project due in a week IS HOMEWORK!  In her mind, it did not become homework until the night before it was due!  Oh no! Once she caught on to planning, life became so much easier for her and the whole family.

As for lunches and clothes -- no problem, we were doing that since preschool, and even at age 7, the younger one could prepare lunches for 3 of us pretty well on her own. We took turns preparing lunches.

We are still really struggling with organization with my soon-to-be freshmen. He just can't keep track of all of his assignments, so I'm still working on ways to get him write it all down. It can be so stressful!

A on-line organizer is great even one in your phone or even the Calendar.

Mine has a feature where it will remind you of an up-coming event...

Put a Calendar on the fridge to keep on track of things.

Separate colours different people in your family or a Calendar for homework assignments and one for appointments or activities.

I love my Calendar!
