Hello and welcome to the board. I am so sorry it has taken me this long to post back. This board tends to be very slow and I forget to log onto it when I go to my other message boards.

First off...I think it is great that you have him in early intervention. The earlier the therapy starts the better. My son does have sensory issues, autism, and a few other developmental issues. We started EI when he was 29mo old. So it's wonderful that you have your son started with therapy already!!

Do your son's therapists think autism at all? Sometimes autism can be very tricky to dx in young children...especially when they are developing at different speeds. Have you ever read the diagnosing criteria for autism under the DSM-IV? My son at 18mo old gave fleeting eye contact, he had no words, and mostly an /ah/ sound, he walked in circles, did not respond to his name, did not play with toys, did not imitate us, etc. He had a lot of the classic signs of autism. He wasn't dx'd until 3.2 years old though. In the beginning he was just considered developmental delay. It wasn't until he was older that the autism really showed itself.

We saw many specialist, dr's, therapists before he was dx'd. Some people said no way....others said...most definitely. It can be a long hard road when you are trying to figure out what is wrong with your child. I hope you get some answers soon. If there are any other questions you may have I would be more then happy to answer them.

Keep up all the hard work! Your little guy is lucky to have you as a mommy.
