Hi all I am new to this board and not really sure if this is where I need ot be but am looking for some hlep. I have a 4.5 year old that has some major issues with loud noises. He has always had problems with fireworks it is pure hell every year we do the earmuffs or headphones with music, and we still end up with a major crying shaking breakdown. The other day we were in a mall and an alarm started going off he was bawling and freaking out please can we leave. I have twins who are almost 2 who didnt seem to even notice the noise. Now when we go near a mall he starts with the panic about the alarms going off. He had problems sleeping for a few days because of it as well. It just seems to cause major anxiety in him. ALso we had a power outage a few months back and he has no stopped asking and panicking about that one either. I just am wondering how normal this is. I used to work with children with autism before kids and this is the only time I have ever seen behaviour like this and although I am pretty sure he is not autisic I am wondering if I need to go to see someone to get him some help. Or am I completely over analyzing this. Any input would be great thatnk you

It sounds like he definatly has auditory filtering problems. You could have him seen by an OT who may have some suggestions to what can be done. The earphones and headphones are a great start. I HTH
