4yo just dx...

My son, Ryan was just dx with SID on Monday, and I was just wondering what others' experiences were at this age. He just turned four last month, and is STILL refusing to use the potty. He doesn't sleep well, and overreacts to loud noises and grinds his teeth all the time. I always have to cut the tags out of his shirts and put his socks on inside-out for him to even consider wearing them, and is always saying that his food is too hot or too cold. On the other hand, though, he loves to push the limits of what a normal body is capable of ; he loves to hang upside down, bounce, and swing, and is always on the go. I'm exhausted. Does anyone know what helps with these problems, and what we can do for him besides the OT that he's going to be getting?

Sounds like you have a classic sensory seeker. As for what to do, all kids are diffrent and the OT will be able to give u some great advice. As for the potty training that's a tough one. The way I did it was just taking the diapers away and getting thick undies, they hated the way it felt when they had an accident and potty trained pretty quick after that, again though the OT may be able to give u better advice. Sleeping the tried and true way is a half hour of rough play, running jumping etc then a 10-15 min. cool down before bed. It helps them blow off steam so to say. I want to assure you that it does get netter my now 6 yo was dx'ed at 4 and has gotten much better every year, not to say she isn't extremly bothered by SID but it has improved and the same for my nine year old, but he wasn't a sensory seeker. I hope this helped if I missed something just let me know and i will answer :)
