Anyone been to a workshop?

Has anyone been to a workshop/conference for SPD? I found one close to me and am excited about going. I'm just worried since we haven't met with an OT yet, that I'll be clueless. I'm also a little nervous about leaving Dh with all 4 my children. I've never done this before. I know he can but Ds doesn't deal well with change.
Was it beneficial? Do I need to bring anything?

Sherri, who is running the workshop? Who is it geared toward? Who are the speakers? I have been out of practice (I am an OT) for a few years, but the names might still be familiar to me. Some of the workshops are great for parents, others definitely not geared that way even if they say they are also for parent.

Michele, The workshop is "Autism Strategies for Home, School,& Community" sponsored by Spectrum Training Systems Inc. It's a 2 day workshop. On Thurs. Carol Stock Kranowitz will be speaking on Sensory Processing Disorder in Young Children. The afternoon topic is Getting Kids in Sync with Fun Activities. On Fri. there will be 2 other speakers. I'm only going on Thurs. though. Ds has only been dx with SPD. I've been told he probably is on the Autism Spectrum but we should wait til he's 3 to open that can of worms. It said it was geared for professionals, caretakers, and parents. I hope this is one I'll be able to follow were very new to all of this. I hope you have good feedback for me. If this isn't a good workshop is there anything I can do by preparing that might make it better?

That sounds like a great workshop to go to. Carol Stock Kranowitz is not an OT but an educator so I think she would be great for a parent to listen to. Also I went to a workshop like that given by the Autism Society of Michigan and it was excellent. I have never heard Carol Stock Kranowitz speak or been to a Spectrum Training workshop but I think they are pretty big. I think it sounds great! let us know how it is. I assume you read the Out of Sync child. I think if you have you will be able to follow it no problem. The reason I asked you who it was for is a lot of the very detailed OT conferences also say they are for parents sometimes.
