Dentist visit?

How do you know when your orally defensive kiddo is ready to handle a first dental checkup?  DC has been doing some desensitization with OT, and will now actually attempt to brush his own teeth, although he still balks at anyone else going near his mouth with a toothbrush.  We've come a long way when he couldn't eat without choking b/c of his efforts to swallow without the food touching his mouth, but still.  DC is 3.2.  WDYT, go for it soon, or not yet?
