Handling Hair Brushing?

I've tried so many different ways to get Abigail accustomed to hair brushing. We're currently using a $30 bottle of conditioner on her b/c she has the kind of hair that gets ratty.
We've discovered pulling the top and some of her bangs into a off-to-the-side pony and leaving it in really really cuts back on the rats nesting (like miraculously) and so that has helped, but we still have to brush it occasionally
She screams, cries, runs, hides and overreacts before I even touch her.
I know some is a learned behavior so I just do my best to not actually hurt her in hopes that she will move past the psycological aspect and realize it doesn't hurt.
We also have issues with the wind blowing her hair against her part so I know it's sensory related but I don't brush against her part!
I have so very little patience for it at this point!!!
We've got all sorts of brushes, styles, textures, we've done deep touch at the same time, hugs, kisses, rewards, etc...
anyone got any creative unusual ideas?
