Hi Everyone,

I have a 4 year old son his name is Nelson. He was diagnosed with SPD and has major issues. He freaks out if people are singing and can't tolerate the radio on in the car. He doesn't like being in crowds, anything to do with touching his mouth, barely eats anything is basically on a liquid diet as he always tells me his throat hurts. He has fine motor issues, and gross motor issues as well. I suspected this every since he was a toddler as he used to cry until I cut the tags out of his clothes. EI did not provide him OT on Speech Therapy since he was a speech delay. For the first 3 years of his life he mumbled never opening his mouth to speak! They never figured out why. I used to work outside of my home and started staying at home (we are in the poor house because of it) just to work on some of his issues and he now speaks and is only delayed 4 months. He is finally receiving OT and some of his issues have gotten worse. The OT therapist has been doing a lot of mouth things to desensitise him and he is not liking it at all. I have no support from my husband as he thinks therapy is dumb and nothing is wrong with my son :smileysad:. My mother doesn't understand my son's condition either and sometimes makes some hurtful comments. Anyway I've been secretly taking my son to his therapy appointments and hope that it helps him with some of his issues. I'm getting very depressed about the whole thing. I hope to get to know you all.

Sorry for the long post.

Hi Pat, welcome to the board! I'm sorry that your husband is not supportive of what your son needs, but we'll be here for you. SPD is not a very understood condition, but I hope that your mom and husband will be more open to it one day.
