Hi! I am new to the board.
Hello everybody! My name is Heather and I have a 2 1/2 year old son, Chase, who has been diagnosed with SI Disorder for the last 6 months. He has three therapists and attends a Head Start program to give me a break and some time for myself. He also has been diagnosed with ADD/Hyperactivity and it's been a real fight since he was born to get him to do anything. In reading many of your discussions, I can SOOOO relate to the feelings of being overwhelmed and embarrassed by the everyday battles I face with my son. People don't understand the disorder and many have never heard of it and therefore think it doesn't really exist. Indeed it does as many of you can relate. I am pregnant with my second child due in Dec. and I praying this child doesn't have as much energy and desire for attention. I know that is bad to wish, but I just don't know if I am up to the challenge of going through this again. I know I will if I am forced, but the first 2 1/2 years of my son's life have really tested my patience and until he was diagnosed I thought I was losing my mind over not being able to get him to behave.
My son is obsessed with telephones, vacuums, and has much difficulty in making any sort of transition. I am so grateful he was diagnosed early through the free First Steps program here in Kentucky and has been able to receive therapy. I highly recommend occupational, speech, and developmental therapies. They have made some improvements in Chase's behavior. I don't think I could have made it through without the diagnosis.
I am so glad you all are here and I hope we will be able to help each other with a condition many people are unfamiliar with and don't take seriously until it happens to them. Much hugs and support!
