Hi all,
My daughter Kayla was diagnosed with SID last month. She's 4. We're starting therapy tomorrow. We should've started it right away, but I was worried (and still am) about how she'll handle it; she's so bad with transitions. She started preschool in September and she still cries every morning and doesn't want to go. Her teachers are concerned because she plays by herself all the time and won't participate in group activities. She's also under-responsive to touch; she's always hugging me and hanging on me, and wanting to sit on my lap when I'm sitting. It's exhausting. How do you cope with that? And does anyone have any suggestions about helping her play with others and make friends? I'm going to ask her therapist about that tomorrow but I thought I'd ask here too.

WElcome!!!! My Gabriel is almost four (Feb.) and is also under responsive and has vestibular issues. He also is always hanging on me,dh and ds. Some therapy techniques we are using with him are... playing with playdough, drawing with shaving cream, spinning in his swing, walking in a ball pit, and lots of horse play (piggy back rides, pillow fights and wrestling around). I wish I had some more suggestions, but we are also in the beginning of SI therapy with him. Once I learn more I will be more than happy to share with you. G/L - hope you stick around.

Welcome Lisa! This is a great group, I love it here :) Marissa is 5.5 and she is always all over us, drives us crazy! Today I bought a vibrating lady bug for her, we've tried brushing, wheelbarrow walks, rolling on the floor, etc. I need to do more messy things with here (maybe that would stop her from touching my food and eating with her hands! lol) but she is SO messy it drives me nuts. If your OT recommends anything let us know!
