Jaundice as a newborn?

Okay ladies this may sound like a weird question but here goes. How many of your children had jaundice when they were born? The reason I'm asking is that I read an article about a little girl with DSI that could have been my DD and it mentioned that she was jaundiced when she was born. Then I met a lady today whose son also has DSI (no other issues) and he was also jaundiced at birth. My DD has only been diagnosed with DSI and she was also jaundiced at birth. They also had difficulty keeping her body temperature up but other than that we had no other problems. Is this just coincidence? I would love to know if any of your children were jaundiced at birth. Thanks for the input.

Angie,

Gabriel was Juandice at birth - I just always thought it was b/c he was breast fed.

Interesting.

I had also posted in the past asking everyone about their pregnancies/births. It was interesting to see that many of our DSI children had some kind of complication during delivery.

I'm curious to see the other posts on this topic.

My DS was not jaundiced at any time.

I am curious about your reference to the posts about delivery complications. I will try to find it.

My DS did have a very long delivery. I pushed for 4 hours, but didn't feel anything the first hour. My epidural was overdone. Eventually used the vacumn to get him out. He was never in distress, per his heart rate. They did have to suction him out and made comments about how long he was in the birth canal, but I don't remember everything they said. He was just over 9 lbs. He was 41 weeks. My 2nd DS, born 21 mos later was only 7 1/2 lbs at 40 1/2 weeks. His delivery was super-fast. Odd about the birth weight differences.

Mary,
The lady I talked to today whose son has DSI said that not only was he jaundiced but that they had to use forceps to get him out. They thought this could have something to do with his underdeveloped fine motor skills in his arms and hands. Thought you might want to know that since you said they used vacuum suction on your son.

Not only was TJ jaundice but also had problems regulating his body temperature. He also had trouble with his blood sugar. His twin was jaundice just not as bad. As far as the delivery- they were born at 37.3 weeks by c-section due to the fact that TJ was transverse. I had blood pressure problems( did with every pregnancy) and gestational diabetes. This is a strange coinsidence isn't it?

Omg, How interesting! My Ds was jaundice too. He was 9 lbs and delivered at 38 weeks. He was stuck, head out but the shoulders were killer! He recieved oxygen and had "dusky spells". He only stayed an extra day hospital.(Just to be on the safe side) I was on 8 weeks of bedrest b/c of a blood clot in my leg. Corbin was fine in utero though.

Well my ds had jaundice and trouble with regulating his body temp and also had severe reflux, but he isn't my kid with DSI. Marissa had none of the above (well maybe the reflux, but that isn't what you are asking about ;) ) so we definitely don't fit this pattern.

I pushed for 2 1/2 hrs w/ Gabriel and his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. He was low tone and did receive some oxygen.

My son developed jaundice around 2 days old. I believe he still has problems regulating his body temp. He sweats at night, no matter how cold it is in the house. A friend recently told me there was a study for ADHD and they wanted to measure basal body temp on the children and record it. I can't find anything online about it, but thought that was interesting.
My second son did not have jaundice. And though he is only four months old, I will say right now I don't believe he has SID or any other similar issues. There is a HUGE difference between the two already it is AMAZING!
