Hi all. I'm new here and my step son is being observed for SI. We are pretty certain he has it. The school therapist has been seeing him and gave the teacher and I a checklist to check off as we see certain behaviors. Mainly he's 99% all the time on most all of the behaviors. He has scary anger. Chewing on his shirts (needless to say I now shop at TJ Max for his shirts instead of buying expensive Polo tee's.) and pencils and anything else. Enough on the symptoms, you all know what they are. And here's the sad thing: his mother wants nothing to do with him. She won't see him and when she comes to our home to get her daughter (2 kids from hubby's prior marriage) she barely speaks to him. He's 8 by the way. Friday I was teaching and needed her to "babysit" and she calls me like 3 hours later and says "f**&ing come get him". I asked her what happened and she wouldn't tell me. Well step son gets on the phone bawling saying for me to come get him and that I'm his best pal and he needs me. Well, the ex wife's man "manhandled" the boy and the ex just let it happen. I picked him up and then he was fine. They have NO patience for him and refuse to work with him. They think that if they pound and yell at him that it will get him to do his homework. They don't get that he needs us parents to have patience with him and understand him and love him. It just makes me mad I guess. Anyhow, Bry has been using a lap pad in school and has been given the opportunity to request to go outside of the classroom to a table to finish his work if he gets too overstimulated. Which is great. And another great thing is that Bry's teacher is awesome! She and I are in continuous communication about him and she is really willing to to whatever it takes to get him movin' and shakin' so to speak. This is a brand new thing for us and it was amazing how it all changed for the better once we distinguished what it was. Now onto Children's for an official screening and then for some therapy. It will all be fine we are sure and afterall, Bry is one perfect and wonderful boy and I love him like my own!!! Thanks, Casey
