Welcome Amber. It definitely sounds like you belong here. I am pretty new here myself, but this is a great group! I have 2 kids, Marissa is 5.5 and is very sensory seeking, she's been receiving OT since July. And Noah is 2. He is very sensitive but doesn't have SPD, but seems so much more sensitive compared to his sister! Hope you have a good first session with the OT.

Welcome Amber!! This board can be such a bright spot in your life!! I'm telling you, I come here & can totally relate to what is going on in our kids lives!.......

My daughter Madison was diagnosed with SPD shy of her 4th birthday -- she CRAVES with a passion *any* sensation!........ She's what we call a 'spin-aholic!'..........

I can't wait to hear more about Angelo & of course, we LOVE the name Gracie! ... (Madison's middle name is Grace & often I call her Gracie).......

And your Mom, is she in the field of PT or OT? How lucky you are to have such an 'in-tune' Mom!!!!

Colleen~ Mom of Morgan, 10 -- Madison, 6 & Maxwell, 34months!

Hello Amber,
It's me Sarah - from the December board. I have no idea what I"m doing on this board since Shalev doesn't have SID, but I"m fascinated by the topic and think Shalev is different enough that I can pick up useful stuff here. Shalev will be 2 on December 11th. He has Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy. We see a neurologist and are currently testing for all kinds of horrible syndromes and disorders.

Hi Sara-Shalev is 1 day younger than Angelo. Hope you are able to get some useful information. How is the speech therapy going? We will be going to that in January- and in a couple weeks the OT will start.

Yep - they are practically the same age! Has Angelo had an official diagnosis of SID?
The ST is going very well. I really really like her. I mean it's not like it's a cure for speech or anything like that - but she has shown me how to sit down and work with Shalev. And she is very good with behavioural issues. She says to Shalev "Your tears don't impress me" and she forces him to do things that she wants him to do. Which is just what Shalev needs (and I"m too chicken to do it!!)
He is really coming on very well. He has about 14 words now (none of which are said correctly - he can mainly do the /b/ consonant).
As of last night he can cruise with a walker (yeay Shalev!!) so physically he is coming along.
And in terms of sensory/behavioural issues - he has made a fantastic improvement in the last week. He now HUGS ME!!! And he lets me sing to him. And he can sit down and play with toys. And he can interact with other kids!!!
So he is really on a major developmental spurt this week. I have no idea what I'm doing on this board - I mainly hang out on the Hypotonia board.
Good luck with Angelo and keep me informed about him on the Dec board.
Love Sarah
